Homozygous: An individual is homozygous when both copies (alleles) of a gene on a pair of homologous chromosomes are the same. This can be AA (dominant) or aa (recessive). Heterozygous: An individual is heterozygous when the two copies (alleles) of a gene on a pair of homologous chromosomes are different, such as Aa. Usually, the dominant allele determines the visible trait.
